A superb example of the wonderful elegance of 1940s fashions! This exquisite vintage 1940s cocktail dress is in french navy rayon crepe fabric, with covetable sweetheart neckline and shoulderpads to make Joan Crawford green with envy!
Embellised on the sleeves, front bodice and skirt with the most stunning scrolled foliate designs in thousands of petrol sequins, baby blue glass bugle beads and clear glass seed beads.
A beautifully flattering shape, it has three quarter length sleeves ruched at the elbows and tucked at the shoulders.
The bodice has fanned darts emanating up from the waist seam, and the dress has ties to fasten around the back and cinch in to your desired fit.
Gently flared skirt with fantastic art deco layered swag detail to the rear and deco splayed stitched down pleats underneath.
Pulls on over the head, no fastenings.
- fits like a modern UK 20
- 47" long
- 17" across the shoulders
- 17" sleeves
- 44" bust
- 39" waist and smaller with ties
- up to 50" across the hips
Over all in very good vintage wearable shape for its age. There is some slight purplish discolouration under the armpits but it is not very obvious when worn and is fairly typical of rayon crepe of this era.
The embellishments are in superb shape with very few missing beads or sequins.
The skirt does have a few small marks and there are a couple of tiny holes to the back mid skirt near the left seam. Price has been set to reflect the fact that although stunning, this frock has a few little issues.
