Exquisite hand woven silk butterfly print floral 1970s evening dress
This showstopper of a vintage evening gown has been kept in our private collection until now, as it is oh so beautiful - but it's time she went out into the wild, so here she is! In exquisite jewel-tone hand woven silk, possibly a designer/couture label but the original owner cut out the tag, and we haven't been able to identify the maker.
The print is stunning, vibrant and bold, featuring an arts and crafts inspired pattern with large butterflies, flowers and scrolling foliage in deep red, fiery orange, vivid pink and purple, along with olive green tones - all popping against a black background.
Circa 1970s, she has long sleeves, plunging v-neckline with fitted panel around the waist, and full circle skirt perfect for twirling around the dancefloor in. Fully lined in bright pink acetate, with metal zip to the centre back.
She has had some alterations, please see the condition report below.
best fit approx a modern UK 12
measures 56" long
15" across the shoulders
free size hips
Label has been removed by the original owner. This dress has been professionally altered to fit a slightly larger size, with panels inset each side of the bodice and small triangular inserts just below the waistband each side (see photo). Otherwise, excellent condition with just natural characteristic slubs to the silk, and a few minor pulls to the fabric at the back of the bodice (again, see photos). Fairytale gorgeous nonetheless! Priced accordingly.
