A rare and beautiful original late 1930s vintage day dress in a mid-weight textured black rayon. A truly exceptional find, this dress features an all-over jacquard-woven pattern of scrolling flourishes in subtle stylised leaf shapes that catches the light beautifully with every movement.
The bodice is a masterpiece of late 30s tailoring, showcasing a flattering V-neckline with subtle ruching at the centre bust. It is flanked by a charming asymmetrical, double-breasted style design adorned with two parallel rows of matching art deco tabs with fabric covered buttons that taper down toward the waist.
The long, elegant sleeves drop into a tailored fit, finishing with classic pointed gauntlet-style cuffs that fasten with hidden press studs.
The dress comes complete with its original matching fabric belt, featuring a wonderful, scalloped-edge green celluloid buckle. The skirt falls into a fluid silhouette with gentle structural panelling and a stylised tab trim to match the bodice. There is a pleat each side of the front skirt. Dress pulls on over the head (no fastenings).

Excellent vintage condition. Structurally strong, robust, and completely ready to wear. Just one tiny, unnoticeable pinhole to report close to the neckline, and a very slight, natural age-related colour nuance to the black dye under certain analytical lights and very slight sheen to the fabric under the armpits.
